Serving as a source of material for tools that ancient Indian tribes needed for daily life, Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument proved to be a vital natural asset for thousands of years. Today, visitors can take a ranger-guided tour up to the quarries, where an amazing spectacle of brightly colored, multi-hued flint awaits. During the mile hike up to the top of the overlook, the ranger can share plenty of information about the region, its inhabitants and the flint at this site. It is located next to Lake Meredith and the Lake Meredith National Recreation Area, just a few miles southwest of the town of Fritch.
